A pressure safety valve that fails to open at the correct pressure does not give a warning. It waits. Then, in the moment the system is most stressed, it either holds correctly or it does not — and the consequences of the latter are measured in explosions, fires, and lives. This is why the testing and calibration of PSVs is not a compliance exercise. It is the only way to know whether your last line of defence will work when it matters.

EnvironmSafe is proud to announce that we are now operating a certified PSV test bench — the only certified test bench of its kind in the region. This is a capability that did not previously exist here. Every facility that operates pressure vessels, LPG storage, boilers, gas pipelines, or process equipment now has access to a service they could not obtain locally before today.

Why a Certified Test Bench Changes Everything

Visual inspection of a PSV tells you what a valve looks like. A certified test bench tells you what it does. There is no substitute for placing a valve under controlled, measurable pressure and observing exactly when it opens, how completely it discharges, and whether it reseats with the tightness the process demands. That test, performed on a calibrated bench with a traceable result recorded on a certificate, is what API 527 and API 576 require — and what insurers, regulators, and any serious maintenance programme demands.

Before this facility existed in the region, organisations faced one of three choices: send valves abroad for testing (costly, slow, and logistically complex), test them in place with portable equipment of limited accuracy, or operate with valves whose true performance was unknown. None of those choices is acceptable for equipment carrying the safety loads that PSVs carry.

What Our PSV Service Covers

The service covers the full lifecycle of a pressure safety valve:

  • Inspection — Visual and dimensional inspection per API 576: body, disc, seat, spring, nameplate. A written condition report with recommended actions.
  • Testing — Set pressure (pop pressure) verification, blowdown measurement, seat tightness per API 527. Performed on our certified bench, results documented on a calibration certificate.
  • Calibration — Spring adjustment to achieve the specified set pressure, accounting for back-pressure and operating temperature via CDTP calculations. Sealed and tagged after calibration.
  • Maintenance and overhaul — Full disassembly, internal cleaning, seat and disc lapping for a gas-tight seal, spring and soft-parts replacement, reassembly, and re-test before return to service.
  • Repair — Body damage assessment, seat reconditioning, spindle and disc replacement, anti-corrosion treatment — extended asset life where replacement would be the default assumption.
  • Documentation — Inspection reports, calibration certificates with a traceable chain, maintenance histories, and PSV register management for regulatory and insurance compliance.

Who This Service Is For

Any facility that operates pressure-containing equipment needs this service on a regular cycle. That means oil and gas upstream and downstream, LPG storage and distribution, industrial boilers and power generation, chemical and petrochemical plants, compressed air and utility systems, and commercial buildings with pressurised HVAC or water infrastructure. The API 576 inspection interval depends on operating history and process conditions, but no interval makes an uninspected valve acceptable.
